Family, friends, neighbors and community,
As many of you know, I've been working for SEARAC since finishing up graduate school in 2015. This wonderful non-profit not only advocates for the rights of some of the most vulnerable immigrant and refugee communities in the country, but has also invested in my personal and professional growth. In my over 5.5 years with SEARAC, I've had the honor to fight alongside families whose loved ones were being deported. I've had the chance to meet with leaders in Congress and the White House to influence policy-change. I've met some of the most amazing and inspirational organizers who continue to teach me every day that the fight for social justice stems from love of family and community. And in the middle of it all, I had got married and started a family-- a feat made possible due to SEARAC's supportive culture for working moms.
This year, I have had the honor of serving as SEARAC's Acting Executive Director-- a journey that has been challenging, humbling, and inspiring during a global pandemic. But through it all, I'm so proud of what SEARAC has been able to accomplish this year around census, the 2020 elections, COVID-19 relief advocacy, our racial solidarity work, and more. I recognize that it's been a tough year for many of us, but if you are looking for an organization to support this giving season, please consider donating to SEARAC and help me give back to an organization that has given so much to me. - Uphold the values that every human being has a right to due process, to culturally competent health care, to quality education, and to economic security, regardless of immigration status.
- Help mobilize and build a national network of Southeast Asian American community leaders to usher in real policy change
- And finally, support an organization that recognizes that family life and work life cannot be compartmentalized, especially this year. SEARAC continues to prioritize a flexible and balanced work schedule that sustains my life as a working mom.
