I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to join Southeast Asia Resource Action Center (SEARAC) this fall. SEARAC’s mission is to uplift our community and pave the way for leadership and advocacy. I will be working as a development intern, focusing on the end of year fundraiser to continue their work!
I am a proud member of the Lao-Khmu community. Our community is rich with refugee experiences and the love of our culture. We face issues of visibility and community outreach due to the size of our community. Like many other Southeast Asian communities we face many injustices that have yet to be resolved. Working with SEARAC has shown me that no story is too small and no community is too insignificant to serve. The Southeast Asian community deserves a platform that is dedicated to our needs.
This year, we demand immediate and long-term investment into Southeast Asian American communities across all sectors. We call for culturally sensitive, linguistically accessible interventions that will allow generations to age with dignity. We mobilize against policies that separate our families. We decided that our time is now.
As we look ahead to 2023 and the work that still needs to be done, I invite you to join our movement for the rights of Southeast Asian Americans to heal, to be seen, and to family. We’re working to amplify the stories of refugee resilience and aid the process of rebuilding our community. Will you support our work in 2023 and beyond?
